Shirtan - Devotional Chanting Shabbat- Shabbat Nachamu

  • 500 Swift Street South Burlington, VT, 05403 United States (map)

Co-led by Rabbi Edleson and Dr. Rebecca Gould

This week is Shabbat Nahamu, where in the cycle of the Jewish year, the grief of Tisha B'Av turns toward hope and comfort leading to the High Holy Days.   As we have done since Rabbi Edleson began, the Friday Night Service will be a Shirtan, a Jewish service of chants, much like a kirtan, and using instruments such as Harmonium, Shruti Box, cymbals, and flute.

This will be quite different from our usual Kabbalat Shabbat on Friday evening.  Instead of following the traditional service outline, we will chant lines from several prayers over and over, opening ourselves to the Divine and inviting a sense of comfort and hope.  The service will include chants from Rabbi Shefa Gold, Rabbi Andy Hahn, Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach, Cantor Joey Weisenberg, and others.

Please join us for this evening of chant and uplifting voices.

Our song-filled joyful Shabbat evening service, this week led by Rabbi Edleson and Mark Leopold.  Oneg to follow.

We are using the Mishkan T’filah Siddur for our worship services

Online attendees can view or download most of the pages that we normally use on Friday nights.
