Welcome to Temple Sinai!
Temple Sinai is a Reform Jewish congregation located in South Burlington, Vermont. We are egalitarian in spirit and action, accepting families of mixed religious background and warmly welcoming all people in the spirit of fellowship. Temple Sinai continues to embody its original goal of contemporary relevance to the beliefs and traditional practices of Judaism, and worship is conducted in both Hebrew and English.
In 1966, Temple Sinai was established by twelve Burlington Jewish families who sought a more liberal expression for their ancient traditions. Since the decision was made, by coincidence, on the eve of Shavuot, the festival commemorating the giving of the Ten Commandments to Moses on Mount Sinai, the name “Temple Sinai” seemed appropriate. Temple Sinai was the first Reform Temple in the state of Vermont.

Reform Judaism affirms the central tenets of Judaism — God, Torah, and Israel — while acknowledging the diversity of Reform Jewish beliefs and practices. Throughout history, the Jewish people have remained firmly rooted in Jewish tradition, but since its earliest days, Reform Judaism has asserted that a Judaism frozen in time cannot coexist effectively with those who live in modern times. Reform Judaism affirms the central tenets of Judaism — God, Torah, and Israel — while acknowledging the diversity of Reform Jewish beliefs and practices.
