Dan Norris from the Vermont Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired

Daniel Norris is currently the Director of Adult Services with the Vermont Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired and has been with the agency since 2004.  Having been hired initially as a Teacher of the Visually impaired (TVI).  He received his Master’s degree in Education: Special Education from Portland State University.  While Dan worked with children to access their education with vision loss, he returned to graduate school at UMass Boston, to became both a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) & Certified Vision Rehabilitation Therapist (CVRT).  These credentials qualified him to help children, adults, and seniors learn to travel in the community with vision loss and help teach adaptive skills of daily living, modify homes, and help people to attain, maintain or regain employment with vision loss.  Daniel is serving on multiple national and international committees to help expand access and awareness of vision services.  He is also the VRT Program Coordinator and Methods Instructor for the VRT program at UMass Boston since May 2014.  Daniel Norris is visually impaired himself, having developed a juvenile form of Macular Degeneration at the age of eight.  In this role, he has acted as a mentor and role model for many transition-aged children and adults, in the state of Vermont and elsewhere. Daniel happily lives in central Vermont with his beloved wife, three children, and irascible cat.

Amy Collins will speak about NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
