Join us and OZ for community waterway cleanup at Burlington’s Barge Canal.
This event is appropriate for people of all ages and will include group clean-up activities facilitated by community members who have been involved in the Barge Canal area management.
Please arrive a few minutes before 12:00 PM and park in the parking lot at Dealer.com at 1 Howard Street. Walk across the street to the chain link gate (it is locked) and enter the Barge Canal just to the right of the fence. Look for the registration table with the big reddish-orange umbrella and come over to sign the Release of Liability form.
About Reverse Tashlich: This program is a recent add-on to the Jewish traditional Tashlich, an annual ritual in which some Jewish people throw crumbs of bread into a body of water during the Rosh Hashanah holiday. The physical act of tossing crumbs is a metaphor for the mental process of seeking to toss away bad habits and improve ourselves in the coming year.
Burlington’s ‘Reverse Tashlich’ began in 2022 when we join 240+ other communities in this new tradition of cleaning up a body of water. Read more about the movement here.
