Over the past two years, a congregant family have been mentoring a teenage Somali woman. She and her family are currently living in the COTS Family Shelter, in Burlington. She is doing fine, but she is really struggling to keep up with her schoolwork and meet expectations for her grade level. This is mostly due to her lack of English language skills and challenges in reading and writing.
We are looking for one or two volunteer tutors to help her with her homework once per week, for about 1.5 hours. You would mostly focus on helping her read and write in English.
The COTS Family Shelter is near the Fletcher Free Library in downtown Burlington. She could walk over and meet you there. We can be somewhat flexible with time, but we are mostly looking for help on weekends.
